Het was een rare dag. Utrecht leek ineens aan zee te liggen, ik bevond me op de door mij zo vervloekte woonboulevard én ik zag een kebabbord. Het bord in kwestie stond voor een net uitziende snackbar, luisterend naar de naam ’t Parkhuys. Een, sorry, té net uitziende snackbar. Duidelijk eentje die zich richt op de mensen die wel met plezier naar een woonboulevard gaan. Of het personeel van de hallen vol kekke woonaccessoires. Met goedgevulde salades met zalm of geitenkaas in filodeeg. Niet echt een plek waar je kebab verwacht.
Voor 4,50 kocht ik een broodje van de fraaie blonde dame achter de kassa. Nu heb ik niets tegen fraaie blonde dames, maar ik heb liever niet dat ze mijn broodje kebab klaarmaken. Dat laat ik liever aan een Turk over. De verdeling was dus vrij slecht. De sambal was pittig te noemen, de knoflooksaus is me een beetje ontgaan. Voor een wat luxere snackbar was het groenvoer een aanfluiting. Wat sla, komkommer en tomaat. Inspiratieloos en standaard.
Groot punt van twijfel was het broodje zelf. Het liefst heb ik een mooie grote witte bol, met wat sesamzaad. Niet te knapperig, niet te zacht, maar precies goed. Hier krijg je een luxe broodje. Zo’n zongedroogde tomaat olijf geval. Een brunch broodje. Een broodje voor mozzarella met verse tomaat, basilicum en goede olijfolie. Misschien zelfs wel erg lekker bij goed kebabvlees. Maar ik zal het nooit weten. Het vlees was namelijk van een standaard fabrieksrol, kip en kalkoen, verzopen in Cup a soup concentraat, en het leek me ook al enige tijd in het eigen vet te hebben liggen weken. Bah. Deze kip van deze tent zou het bijzonder goed gedaan hebben op dit broodje, vermoed ik zo.
Mijn tip? Als je dan toch zo graag exotisch wilt doen als snackbar doe het dan goed. Lees deze site eens door, leer wat extra’s zijn, verdiep je in kwaliteit. Alleen een luxe broodje doet het niet. Verras mensen met een top product op een plek waar het niet verwacht wordt. Maar als je dat niet kan of wil laat het dan helemaal. Niemand zit te wachten op dure, slechte kebab op een goed broodje.
