Even terug naar Griekenland hoor, ik was nog niet klaar met alle toppers die ik in Athene heb gegeten in 2025.
Voor m’n vertrek had ik een lijst gemaakt met een aantal zaken die ik moest bezoeken.
Uren op internet om alle pixels van onder en boven te bekijken voor de beste pitas met het beste vlees en de beste bereiding.
Kwijlend achter m’n scherm liep ik tegen KAPSA aan. Een nieuwe tent, wederom gerund door een chef en wederom met ‘speciale’ pitas. Geen toeristenbende, maar afwijkende inhoud en meer van dat.
Op het menu zie ik bijvoorbeeld Cypriotische pico de gallo en een spicey tomatensaus en dat……klinkt gewoon superaantrekkelijk.
Afijn.
We kwamen uit het vliegtuig op de AERODROMIO, de metro staakt weer eens dus stappen we in de suburban richting Nerantziotissa.
Van daar met de taxi naar Maroussi. Taxi’s zijn in Athene nog steeds supergoedkoop voor Nederlanders.
Is echt een grap gewoon. Waar je hier al je centen kan uitgeven voor een kilometer per taxi, kan je gerust van de zee naar de zee karren In Griekenland en je hebt nog knaken over voor vreten en een hotel.
Nu stappen we uit de taxi voor de deur van POSTO, de tent die ik normaliter bezoek als ik in noord-Athene ben, maar nu even niet. Ik heb alle ruimte nodig voor het pitafestijn straks.
Ja, dat lees je goed. ik heb alle broodjes letterlijk geplanned vantevoren. Straks overeet je jezelf en past er niks meer bij en dat gaat me niet gebeuren.
Ik weet ook dat sommige pitas niet helemaal gegeten zullen worden. Net als tijdens een kebabtour moet je soms keuzes maken. Er wordt namelijk ook bier bij gedronken. En het blijft soort van vakantie, ook al ben ik hier maar drie dagen.
Ala, nadat we onze business hebben gedaan en ik de Griekse eigen kweek heb geregeld, stappen we uit de metro, die weer rijdt, in het centrum.
Meteen naar VOLVI natuurlijk, voor twee micro pita soutzoukakia. Hap, slik, weg pita, maar wel de beste van dit moment. Kan je niet laten gaan.
Een zooi bier gedronken op straat, het appartement gedaan en weer terug de stad in. Via Hoocut en nog een sloot bier en lopen van hot naar her staan we voor KAPSA.
Ena pita souvlaki me pico de gallo ki tzatziki parakalo. Episis patates me prasini kai kokkini saltsa.
Efcharisto gekkenhuis! Vergeet m’n bier niet!
Ik zal vast verklappen dat dit broodje mijn nummer twee is geworden van deze stad.
Het smaakt naar een classic pita gyros, maar dan met extra OOMPH? Is dat een juiste beschrijving?
Dat is het! Het vlees is juicy en smaakvol, de tzatziki is niet te overheersend en in de juiste hoeveelheid en bevat een kleine paprikapoeder blast voor je papillen.
De pico de gallo verrast en valt perfect samen met de smaak van de tzatziki en het vlees.
Dit is duidelijk een topbroodje. Er valt weinig over te zeggen verder, de ervaring die KAPSA is, blijft nog lang hangen. Zo lang, dat ik hier nu zit, vier maanden later en het nog steeds voor de geest kan halen.
Er is nog iets het vermelden waard trouwens! En dit zal wel raar overkomen, maar goed, hier gaan we….
De patat!
Ik heb nog NOOIT zulke goede patat gegeten!
Serieus.
Doublefried in weetikveelwatvoor olie.
De groene saus bevat kardemom en is zo apart….dat heb je nog nooit geproefd.
Althans. Ik niet. Ik gebruik kardemom weleens om ZHUG te maken, wat ook een onwijze aanrader is als je van hete saus houdt. Is een Yemenitische versie van chimmichurri. En dan fuckin’heet.
Maar goed ik dwaal af en moet een beetje voortmaken want ik ga zo naar dat stink tyfus kanker NDSM om iets te doen.
Dussss…..groene saus? TOP. Rode saus? Ook top. Geen idee hoe ik deze smaak moet beschrijven trouwens, het is zeker geen ketchup onzin of aangelengde troep. Het is iets origineels en unieks.
‘Spicy tomato sauce’ en ‘spicy green pepper sauce’ staat er. Nou ja, dat zal dan wel.
Ik zou bijna zeggen dat er een hint van koffie inzit ofzo, maar ik drink geen koffie want dat is voor flikkers dus daar ben ik niet super zeker van.

De broodjes zijn top!
De patat is de beste in dit hele land maar dat zegt op zich niet zoveel want Grieken kunnen gewoon geen patat bakken. Deze patat was beter dan welke patat ik ook heb gegeten ooit.
De sauzen zijn compleet gestoord en uniek.
Ik kom zeker terug de volgende keer en ik raad iedereen aan die richting Athene gaat om deze tent op te nemen in je agenda, net als VOLVI, die letterlijk vijftig meter verderop zit.
Godverdomme wat een goeie tent!
En kijk naar die prijzen! In Nederland moet je tegenwoordig een extra hypotheek nemen om buiten de deur te vreten!
