Van tevoren heb ik wel wat over het internet gestruind op zoek naar döner kebabzaken in Athene, maar de niet altijd rooskleurige relatie tussen Turkije en Griekenland in acht nemend, bedacht ik me al vrij snel dat dat weleens een lastige zou kunnen worden.
In Piraeus aangekomen viel mn oog vrijwel meteen op een megalo bord met vlees erop.

Ik constateerde dat dit een tentje was met pitas gyros voor twee euro, wat een goede prijs is als je het mij vraagt.
Nou zal ik misschien eerst, voor de niet-Griekofielen, moeten vertellen dat de Griekse variant van de pita in geen velden of wegen op de Nederlandse versie lijkt.
Een harde discus met een snee erin vs een heerlijk gevouwen, bijna Mexicaans ogend apparaat. Zoiets.
In mn vreugde dat ik meteen kon gaan testen, vergat ik blijkt nu een foto te maken van de buitenkant.
Het is die ene grote tent als je het metrostation uitloopt, kan niet missen.
Tja, snelle service, koud bier dat ik elke dag thuis drink, een mosterdsaus die wat mild bleek en een soort hete ketchup om de tzatziki af te toppen.
Ik vind het broodje een beetje klein. Een beetje als een twee euro-broodje döner kebab hier in Nederland.
Dit zal dan wel het standaard twee euro-broodje pita gyros zijn.
Tzatziki in goede hoeveelheid en toch nog één keer die patat erin, gewoon, je bent in een goede bui.
Tomaatje, lekker veel rode ui…Myhtosbiertje.
Na wat gepist te hebben vervolgden we onze weg naar een tent waar ik altijd zit als ik hier toevallig ben, vlakbij het water, alleen maar beton en nog meer gekoelde glazen.
Daar kaan je even een snackversie van de souvlaki zoals het hoort, een meesterwerk van verschillende tinten vlees in je maag voordat je de baren trotseert.
