Vorig jaar liet ik mij al eens ontvallen dat er best wat meer spannende kebab zou mogen komen. (check Munchies). Van meerdere kanten vernamen wij dat er in Amsterdam een zaak is die in dat gat gesprongen is. Een zaak met ambitie, en een hoog hipster gehalte. Dan moet je ook niet vreemd opkijken als wij met vijf man komen kijken hoe het nou écht met je kebab gesteld is.
Vijf verhalen over één tent is misschien wat veel, maar heeft voor mij als voordeel dat ik niet zo veel hoef te schrijven, dat doet de rest wel. Lui als altijd, die Jan Beton.
Het pleit voor deze zaak dat ze kebab eens wat anders benaderen, en spannende extra’s hebben. En een goede drankkaart. Uiteraard komt dit niet voor niets, die prijzen… Oefff. Een pita smokey ratatouille komt neer op 7,50. Dat is zonder twijfel de meest prijzige kebab die ik ooit at. En dan nog wel in een pita! Maar dat deed ik mezelf aan, maar voor dit bedrag mag je een goede pita verwachten was mijn redenatie. En dat klopt. Niet zo’n harde, platgeslagen supermarkt pita, dit was een verse, een goede, een eetbare. Had wel wat groter mogen zijn.
De extra’s, in dit geval dus de smokey ratatouille (paprika, rode ui, courgette en aubergine) zijn goed, erg goed. Maar leiden wel wat af van de kebab. Voor een zaak die kebab graag anders doet hebben ze ook niet veel keus qua vlees. Kip. Dat is het. Kip. Kip die niet erg overheersend was in mijn broodje, de kip vulde de extra’s een beetje aan in plaats van andersom. Dus de kip werd de extra…
Ik vermoed dat kalfsvlees het een stuk beter had gedaan in dit broodje. En dat ze überhaupt geen echte lamskebab hebben is me ook een raadsel. Lam is uitermate goed geschikt om er spannende extra’s bij te verzinnen.
Desalniettemin een erg lekker broodje, maar met twee belangrijke minpuntjes wat mij betreft; het vlees en de prijs. Het is geen “even tussendoor” broodje. Maar ik geloof ook niet dat ze daar op mikken. Nu maar hopen op meer van dit soort zaken, en een gezonde concurentie die de prijs wat gaat drukken.
