Vaak zijn dingen zoals je verwacht dat ze zijn. En gelukkig is het soms helemaal anders dan je zou verwachten. Deze belabberde foto met een niet echt smakelijk uitziend broodje behoort tot de laatste categorie.
Naast het voetbalstadion van H.F.C. Haarlem zit een piepklein tentje die vroeger vieze, gore, vette patattekes verkocht. Ineens was deze frieterie weg en werd er bijna een jaar lang flink verbouwd. Wat op zich al een prestatie is als je er vanuit gaat dat de toko hooguit 20 vierkante meter beslaat. Nu zit er een klein pittoresk kebabzaakje.
Zo’n enorme verbouwing moet zichzelf toch terugverdienen dacht ik, dus ik pinde nog maar even wat bij omdat ik vermoedde dat de drie euromuntstukken in mijn broekzak niet voldoende zouden zijn om in mijn vleesbehoefte te voorzien. Mijn verbazing was dan ook groot toen ik slechts twee euro vijftig moest afrekenen voor een broodje verpakt in een kek piepschuim bakje.
Na het openen van het bakje werd mijn vreugde alleen nog maar groter toen ik ontdekte dat het met de verdeling wel snor zat. De sla en saus zat echt tussen het broodje en het vlees waardoor je bij elke hap vlees, sla, saus en brood naar binnen krijgt. Er zaten zelfs wat stukjes augurk tussen die voor een frisse bite zorgden.
Is er dan helemaal niks aan te merken op dit broodje? Natuurlijk wel. Na een inspectie van de slabak zag ik dat deze niet erg vers was. En hoewel je er als Nederlander maar mee moet leren leven dat je vlees met grote regelmaat wordt opgewarmd of gebakken in plaats van vers afgesneden, blijft het toch een minpuntje. De verder lekker gekruide stukjes dood dier waren toch iets te droog zoals je op de foto wel kunt zien.
Mocht je ooit een wedstrijd bezoeken van topclub Haarlem dan zou ik zeker voor en ook na de wedstrijd een maaltje gaan halen bij dit kleine tentje. De bediening is erg vriendelijk en ze zijn met recht trots op hun nieuwe kebabtoko. Nu maar hopen dat de gunstige prijs geen lokkertje is en we binnenkort alsnog de verbouwingskosten moeten betalen…
