Anderhalf jaar geleden schreef ik hier al het volgende over Den Helder : “Ik heb een soort romantisch beeld dat ik daar, aangezien het een marine alsmede haven stad is, een straatje ga aantreffen met dikke hoeren, duistere kroegen waar zo nu en dan (maar toch minstens een keer per uur) iemand door de ramen het pand verlaat, daarnaast natuurlijk een glaszetterij, een tattooshop die gespecialiseerd is in anker en hartje mamma tattoo’s, een raar Chinees kruidenwinkeltje waar de tijgerbalsem nog van tijger gemaakt wordt en in alle andere producten minimaal gemalen panda zit en natuurlijk een kebabtoko die alleen maar grote broodjes voor weinig verkoopt.”
Het heeft even geduurd, maar ik denk dat ik die straat gevonden heb. Goed, niet alles klopt. Zo hoef je niet direct een dikke hoer te zijn als je er uitziet alsof je zo in Jersey Shore kan zitten. Een en ander staat wel in verband met elkaar, maar ik zal ze zo niet noemen. Ik zal het denken. Het rare Chinese kruidenwinkeltje is gewoon een coffeeshop. Een aardige hoeveelheid eettenten, gericht op nachtelijke bezoekers. Uiteraard gesloten, aangezien de zon nog scheen. Gelukkig vond ik om de hoek een een zaak die open was.
Voor 3,25 werd er mij door de uiterst vriendelijke verkoper een broodje verkocht. Een enigszins plat broodje, te wijten aan het feit dat het voor enige tijd klem zat tussen de twee ijzers van het grillapparaat. Beste kebabbers, jullie hoeven dit apparaat niet zo hard aan te drukken, het broodje is NIET Geert Wilders, en ook niet je schoonmoeder. Laat de bolletjes toch een beetje in hun waarde! De sla was niet super vers, maar ook nog niet begonnen met een rottingsproces, of bruin. Verder bestond het konijnenvoer aanbod hier uit tomaat en ui. Zo standaard als het maar standaard kan zijn dus. Ik werd voor de keuze gesteld of ik de saus in bakjes wou of al op mijn broodje. Erg netjes, aangezien ik mijn broodjes meestal in de auto eet en dan geen zin heb in gepruts met bakjes, hoe fijn het ook is om zelf de hoeveelheid saus die je nodig acht over je broodje te gieten. Vervolgens kwam De Verdeling. Hier kan de Apartheid nog een puntje aan zuigen. Saus in het broodje, broodje even dicht, zodat het gehele broodje een grote sausdichtheid had. Vlees. Nog een beetje knoflooksaus. Groenvoer. Nog wat vlees. Nog wat saus. Nou klinkt dit bijna als een saus overdosis, maar dat viel mee.
Het vlees was verticaal van de rol gesneden, beste lappen dus. En kwam uit het bakje. Helaas. Een beetje droog dus, nog niet rookbaar droog, en ook nog niet heel erg storend, maar als dit vers was geweest… De hoeveelheid was namelijk meer dan ruim in orde, maar het feit dat het niet super vers vlees was overschaduwde dat een beetje. Een beetje maar. Want verder was dit een erg fijn standaard broodje, met pluspunten voor de knoflooksaus. Aangezien dit duidelijk knoflooksaus is. Dit broodje wil je niet vlak voor je eerste date eten, geloof me. Uitstekende verdeling, beste hoeveelheid, niet al te duur, mijn eerste kebabervaring in Den Helder viel me niet tegen.
