Na uren rondlopen door Florence hadden we zomaar weer honger.
Eerdere ervaring met Turküaz Choco Kebab, goede service en een aangename gesprek, maakte de keuze makkelijk. Op naar de grote broer Turküaz Kebab.
De kebabber van ’s ochtends hing rond in de zaak. We sluiten niet uit dat hij inmiddels een detailstudie van www.kebabreporters.com had gemaakt, want het enige wat er af kon waren norse blikken.
We waren aan de late kant, laten we zeggen niet meer dan twee uur voor het moment waarop Italianen honger beginnen te krijgen, dus er was helemaal niemand in de zaak.
Ik reken de zwijgzame groep van drie donker geklede werknemers even voor het gemak niet mee.
We besloten tot Durum, MaCA de dooie kip, ik de beef. “Met Ayran graag….“.
“Die is op”, was de reactie waaraan iedere vorm van levensvreugde ontbrak.
“Doe dan maar koffie”, was de 2e poging. “We hebben alleen Italiaanse” was het antwoord, waar mogelijk nog meer depressie in was verscholen.
Het drong tot het team door dat we niet onmiddellijk zouden verdwijnen, maar ter plekke de bestelling zouden consumeren en beoordelen.
Daar hadden we een uitstekende reden voor. Turküaz Kebab beschikt, in tegenstelling tot de kleine zoete buurman, over een uitstekend straat terras, waar het goed zitten in na een dag ferm de turbo-toerist uit te hebben gehangen.
Met zicht op de toeristen die zo stom waren zich aan de Italianen aan te passen en dus tot 20.30 hongerig liepen te chagrijnen, alleen maar om thuis te kunnen vertellen hoe anders die Italiaanse cultuur is, en hoe fantastisch het was om zich daar aan aan te passen.
En met uitkijk op de Duomo, die op redelijke afstand best leuk is om te zien.
Ondertussen waren de durums gevuld. Verse gevarieerde salade, goede yoghurt saus en stevige pittige saus, pepertje er bij, helemaal goed.
Althans, dat had het zomaar kunnen wezen. Kijk, het vlees kwam niet direct van de rol, maar de beef was prima en kwam met grote hoeveelheden.
Nee, het was de verpakking. Leg het op een bordje, stop het in een leuk papieren zakje met als rode opdruk tekening van een vakgenoot die leven en werken wel ziet zitten, MAAR FROT HET NIET IN EEN GROTE PLASTIC ZAK!!!
Dat deden ze dus wel. Permanent opletten aan te voorkomen dat je de plastic slierten tussen je tanden weg moet peuteren, terwijl de Durum na twee happen spontaan desintegreerd en zich verspreid in de plooien van de nu “semi-vuilniszak”.
MaCA vond dat de kip niet smaakte of het vlees van een dier kwam dat een zinvol leven had geleefd, dus met de beroerde verpakking wordt dat maximaal drie pecores voor Turküaz Kebab. Met een beetje meer moeite hadden ze twee keer op een dag een tevreden klant gehad.
