Afgelopen zondag was het 30×20 minutenfest te Paradiso. In principe 30 bands die ieder 20 minuten mochten optreden op de verschillende podia binnen het complex. Als bezoeker kon je een beetje heen en weer lopen tussen de optredens, en mocht je uiteindelijk op je twee favoriete bands stemmen. Een stel vrienden van mij trad hier op, en dus was ik uiteraard aanwezig.Vrij veel tijd werd doorgebracht op de balkon, waarbij je tussen de optredens door kon genieten van een slideshow van de verscheidene bands. Na hier dus teveel tijd naar te hebben zitten staren kan ik met zekerheid zeggen dat je als band chagrijnig in een steegje hoort te staan. Geen steegje aanwezig? Weiland/bos is ook goed.
Na keihard op The Q en Heroism gestemt te hebben (Een foute keuze, blijkbaar gaf Cozmicsoulfire, een middelbare vrouw in te strakke legging, een spetterend optreden door mee te zingen met een CD en steeds meer uit te trekken) begon ik eens mensen te charteren om kebab te gaan scoren. Geen van mijn gekozen bands had gewonnen en ik had honger (hoewel je eigenlijk nooit een smoes hoeft te zoeken om kebab te eten natuurlijk).
Er was vrij veel animo, maar de reis werd lastig. Men had zoveel honger dat ik ze bijna fysiek weg moest trekken bij de verscheidene Burger King’s en Wok-To-Go’s. Gelukkig, in de Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, naast de Brasil Music Bar en Wok to Walk was daar de… Tja, hoe heten ze eigenlijk? Vlaamse Frites? Döner Kebab? Geen naam te bekennen. Whatever, ze hadden een spit dus we liepen naar binnen.
Na de lichtshows van Paradiso moesten we flink wennen aan het brakke TL-licht dat hier de zaak verlichtte. Er was wel flink wat ruimte en wij konden met de hele groep (van zeg 8 man) lekker zitten om te eten, zonder de hele zaak te domineren.
Ik bestelde een broodje kebab en de man achter de balie ging aan de slag. Tot mijn plezier lokaliseerde ik al snel de ‘After Garlic’, kauwtabletten voor als je knoflook gegeten hebt. Als diehard reporter die toch na dit broodje naar huis zou gaan heb ik me er niet aan gewaagd, maar het concept is aardig. Ik richtte mijn aandacht weer op de verkoper; hij pakte zowaar een VOLKOREN pita en deed daar vlees uit de au bain marie in. Er werd gevraagd of wij groenvoer wilden, of we een uitje wilden, en wat voor saus het geheel moest afmaken. Ik ging voor alles minus sambal, vriendin nummer B die ook aanwezig was ging voor alles.
Het broodje lag binnen no time in onze handen en wij gingen zitten voor de beoordeling.
Het brood, hoewel opvallend vanwege de keuze voor volkoren, was niet bijster interessant. Volkoren of niet, een pita blijft een pita. Het viel ook heel snel uit elkaar. Het groenvoer, bestaande uit sla, komkommer en tomaat, smaakte naar water, niets meer en niets minder. De saus was slecht verdeeld en niet erg boeiend. (Namens Vriendin nummer B; de sambal was best lekker en vrij pittig, maar dat kan ook best omdat de rest van het broodje zo intens oninteressant was). Het vlees was een eier-kip product, standaard gekruid.
Een redelijk formaat maar daarnaast volstrekt teleurstellend. Het was niet vies, maar het was ook zeker niet lekker. Pleuris product kostte nog eens €5,50 ook. Gelukkig, met fantasiën over Cozmicsoulfire in mijn hoofd, kon ik de dag toch nog bestempelen als geslaagd. Volgend jaar weer!
