Vriend en vijand vertelt mij dat ik zo lekker kan schrijven en regelmatig wordt mij gezegd ‘dat ik daar echt iets mee zou moeten doen’. Nou goed, bij dezen dan. Kebabreport nummer zoveel. En dit gaat een toppertje worden, want er zit dus gewoon een tent in Den Haag die echt lamsvlees verkoopt, dat minstens zo lekker is als dat van Oké op de Dappermarkt in Amsterdam. Die laatste zin is onnodig lang en staat dus een beetje haaks op mijn, door anderen waargenomen, talent voor schrijven. Maar fuck it, ik vind het vooral gewoon leuk om te doen en dat schijnt het belangrijkste te zijn, passie. Bovendien schrijf ik een beetje zoals ik praat, veel en snel. Dus, lekker vlot doorlezen en laat je innerlijke stemmetje je de tekst voorlezen, dan gaat het als een blok roomboter in een hete pan, nice ‘n smooth.
Eerlijkheid gebiedt mij te bekennen dat ik mezelf als taalpurist beschouw, maar tegelijkertijd regelmatig taalkundige en grammaticale fouten maak. Eén en al contradictie dus. Maar een ding waar ik absoluut nevernooitniet in afwijk, is mijn liefde voor kebab. De mooie, aan een spit draaiende variant van kebab. Onze geliefde döner kebab.
Jaren geleden vertelde een vriend van mij dat hij weer zo lekker gegeten had bij Tandir. Dit is een tentje in het centrum dat er op het eerste gezicht meer uitziet als een spookhuis of als dekmantel voor witwaspraktijken van de Grijze Wolf. Ik dacht over die vriend van me dattie niet goed bij z’n hoofd was om daar te eten en heb dit dan ook nog jaren uitgesteld. Maar daar is laatst verandering in gekomen. Met mijn mooie vriendin liep ik daar op de bonnefooi naar binnen met een instelling van wat de fuck, laten we het gewoon proberen. En wat zag mijn oplettende oog daar? Een kebabrol die veelste donker en vettig was om kalf of kip te kunnen zijn. Zou het? Zou het echt? Dus ik vraag die vent: ‘Hee gardash, is dat nou lamsvlees joh?’ Er verscheen een glimlach op de man zijn gezicht, waarin ik een soort van herkenning/erkenning waarnam. Ja abi, deze kaas heeft er kaas van gegeten en herkent kwaliteit wanneer hij het ziet. Dit eetavontuurtje stond op het punt zich te ontwikkelen tot een succes dat zijn weerga niet kent.
Alles erop en eraan is hoe we rollen bij Kebabreporters, dus dat wilde ik dan ook op mijn broodje. En zo geschiedde. Bij de eerste hap leek het net alsof er een kebabengeltje klaarkwam in mijn mond (no homo). Het lamsvlees is zo sappig en zo rijk van smaak dat het broodje lichtelijk doordrenkt is van jus. Dit broodje is king. Dit broodje is een creatie waar Atatürk, Mehmet de Veroveraar en Hakan Sükür trots op zouden zijn. Dit is het beste dönervlees dat ik ooit geproefd heb in Nederland. Ik overdrijf niet, Tandir Öcakbasi is een geduchte concurrent voor de beroemde Oké op de Dappermarkt. Het vlees vind ik zelfs misschien wel beter, omdat het een grof gestapelde rol is met dikke lagen vlees, daar waar de Dappermarkt het vlees een stuk fijner van structuur is. Verder is bij Tandir het broodje zoals het hoort, lekker vers en eventjes gebakken in de oven. De groenten en de sauzen zijn ook prima, maar niet zo bijzonder als het vlees. Daar zit een beetje het verschil in met de Dappermarkt, waar ze er ook nog gebakken groente en zelfgemaakte sauzen bij gooien. Maar goed, daar kan ik mee leven.
Een broodje lams bij Tandir kost 4,50 euro en dat heb ik er graag voor over. Binnen bij Tandir hebben ze trouwens een moeilijk grote houtskoolgrill waar je fucking lekker van kunt eten, volgens die vriend van me, maar dat terzijde.
Eindstand Tandir Öcakbasi: bijna 5 van de 5 schapen, laten we zeggen een 9+. Dit is een verborgen pareltje midden in het centrum van Den Haag en ik raad iedereen aan hier je kebabbehoefte te bevredigen, want je krijgt veel en het is zoals Hagenezen zeggen ‘kankah lekkah’.
