Madrid, de stad van Real en Atletico, mooie vrouwen, goedkoop bier (als je weet waar je heen moet), en natuurlijk het enige andere heilige vleeselijk goedje waar wij om geven: kebab. Na het bezoeken van het Bernabéu, heb ik samen met mijn reisgenoot besloten om deze vooravond te beginnen met Kebab, gezien de persoon in kwestie al meerdere dagen om een broodje dood dier zat te zeuren. Dat kwam mede doordat we ’s nachts, meestal rond de hier in Nederland normale uren, 3-4u ’s nachts, de kebabtoko’s al gesloten waren.
Bij het verlaten van het Bernabéu heb ik dan ook maar Google Maps geraadpleegd. Na het zoeken op het woord kebab in de buurt, kwam ik op de Kebabzaak genaamd “Kebab Rania”. Het was op Google Maps aardig gereviewed, dus dat moest en zou aan de tand gevoeld worden!
Na een wandeltocht van ongeveer 20 minuten door de hitte van Madrid, waarbij je na een uur in de zon voor nog maar 10% uit water zou bestaan gezien de rest verdampt zou zijn, waren we eindelijk aangekomen bij Kebab Rania. Van buiten zag het er niet zo heel interessant uit. Er waren wat foto’s op de muur geplakt zoals je wel meer ziet bij vooral kleine restaurants in Madrid. Hier spotten wij al snel een broodje kebab + friet + een blikje cola voor 4,50. Ik ben meer van de dürum, dus ik bestelde bij de kebabman een dürum en een blikje cola, mijn maat het menu met friet en cola. Na in krakkemikkig Spaans de bestelling gedaan te hebben, hebben we plaatsgenomen buiten op het terras. Klinkt heel mooi, maar in werkelijkheid als je je arm uitstak op het verkeerde moment, was er een bus met je arm aan de haal gegaan, gezien het wel erg dicht aan de straat zat. Toch was het goed toeven daar in de schaduw, tenzij je af en toe een spasme hebt, dan kan ik aanraden binnen te gaan zitten(anders mis je een arm), waar het er ook allemaal netjes uit zag.
Maar goed, het belangrijkste nu. Het vlees zou 100% Halal lamsvlees moeten zijn, en na nadere inspectie was dat ook zo. Dat Halal kan ik niet bevestigen, het lamsvlees wel. Ik kreeg bij mijn Dürum wel friet, ook al had ik daar niet om gevraagd. Na nadere inspectie van mijn rol zag het er prima uit, het bevatte na het vlees de normale sla die wij hier ook gewend zijn: sla, tomaat en knoflook. Helaas niet zoals andere kebabtenten met wat meer varianten aan sla, maar de sla krijgt hier geen -1 schaap, geen +1 schaap, maar +0. De verdeling daarentegen, was wel goed, niets op aan te merken. Bij nadere inspectie bleek ook dat ik geen knoflooksaus had, maar cocktailsaus. Als ik Spaans had gekund, was dit ook zeker op mijn Dürum geraakt. De verdeling was dan ook wat minder, gezien de eerste paar happen zonder saus waren. Na meerdere happen bleek dat de Dürum rol zelf, niet was zoals we die hier in Nederland hebben. Hij was een beetje hard, knapperig. Helaas minpunten op dat vlak. Het vlees was lekker en de cocktailsaus viel me erg mee. Nu was het tijd om mijn reisgenoot eens te vragen wat hij er van vond. We constateerden dat zijn broodje eigenlijk hetzelfde was als mijn Dürum, alleen kreeg hij wel knoflooksaus, die tevens goed verdeeld was en zijn we tot de conclusie gekomen dat het broodje lekkerder was dan de Dürum.
Dan, de prijs. In totaal betaalden we 10.30. Meer dan ik van te voren verwachtte. Dürum + friet + cola bleek 5.80 te zijn. Voor cola zal zo ongeveer 1 euro gerekend zijn en de friet zal ook niet gratis geweest zijn. Het broodje kebab daarentegen was niet alleen beter, maar dus ook goedkoper. Als je zo rekent dat een blikje een euro is, heb je dus een broodje kebab voor 3,50 inclusief friet, wat een schappelijke prijs is. Dürum is er goed te doen als je per sé wilt, maar je ik raad je aan om in je beste Spaans om knoflooksaus te vragen en de friet achterwege te laten.
Achteraf gezien, (we wisten niet wat we konden verwachten) hebben we toch een aardige maaltijd gehad. De Dürum geef ik dan ook 3 schapen. Het broodje krijgt dan ook net een hogere score van 4 schapen. Helaas heb ik hier geen foto van genomen, mijn reisgenoot had hem al op voordat ik überhaupt besefte dat hij was begonnen met eten. Hij was dan ook zeer te spreken over zijn broodje.
