Een vakantie die per ongeluk en bij toeval ook soort van kebabtour was; Bob Kepap en Ma C A, Ben en Bernadine Brak, Bert en Bertina, Jan Beton en ikzelf gingen deze maand op stap. Samen wandelde we de zolen van onze schoenen door de straten van Boedapest.
Nou ben ik als Sziget veteraan al behoorlijk bekend met deze prachtstad, maar dit was de eerste keer dat ik het er ’s winters mocht bewonderen. Naast de mij al bekende architectuur, goede restaurants, leuke (ruin) pubs en badhuizen kon ik er dit keer ook een overload aan kerstmarkt en gluhwein bij optellen. Ja, ook ’s winters houd ik van Boedapest. En ook ’s winters verkopen ze er kebab.
Ben Brak en zijn vrouw waren genesteld bij wijnbar Vinolia (aanrader), waar wij ze zouden ontmoeten. Onderweg stopten Jan en ik bij Istanbul törok étterem. Hier bestelde ik een ‘beef kebab’, wat in Boedapest steevast een wrap met biefstukvlees inhoudt. Ondanks de vrolijke versieringen was het personeel strontchagrijnig, maar de aanblik van hun extra’s stemde me desondanks hoopvol. Binnen no time kreeg ik een bordje naar me toe geschoven, waarbij het volstrekt onduidelijk was bij wie of waar ik kon afrekenen (520 HUF, ofwel €1,65 voor een wrap, niet slecht!). Na wat handgebaren werd ik naar de kassa gewuifd, waar de meid achter de kassa letterlijk me het geld uit mijn handen griste. Na dit treurige tafereel namen Jan en ik boven plaats. De pogingen om een schilderij met Joshua trees toch kerstig aan te laten doen vond ik leuk.
Vervolgens richtte ik mij op mijn wrap; de al bekende biefstukkebab, variant koud dit keer. Sla, rode en witte ui, rode en witte kool, wortel. Als saus een munt-knoflook saus (verassend lekker), en iets wat sambal had moeten voorstellen maar jammerlijk in zijn missie faalde.
Later toen we bij Vinolia aankwamen, vertelde één man van het personeel daar dat de Istanbul een keten is. De allereerste zaak was goed en daarna werd het gestaag minder bij alle daaropvolgende zaken. Ik snap het wel. Ondanks de koude maaltijd, het chaggo personeel en het gebrek aan sambal, voldoet de wrap die ik kocht aan veel dingen die we in Nederland nog niet onder de knie hebben; goed vlees, verse, verscheiden extra’s en een goede frisse saus die niet al te standaard is. Dit alles ook nog eens voor een goede prijs. Ik had het overigens kunnen weten, want ik ben al eerder bij een andere Istanbul geweest in Boedapest.
Als het personeel nou ook eens van hun aarsch komt en die shit opwarmt, kunnen ze meer dan twee schapen van me krijgen.
