We schrijven woensdagmiddag 11 mei, 14:18 uur. Mijn telefoon maakt het welbekende sms geluid. “Wow holy shit, we staan op GeenStijl. Zoveel bezoekers nu dat de site er af en toe uit ligt”. Vanaf daar werd het bijna onwerkelijk. De bezoekers en likes op facebook namen in rap tempo toe. Met als gevolg dat het tussen dat moment en vanmorgen alleen nog maar over kebab ging. Met als mooi hoogtepunt het moment vannacht waarop de eerste cijfers bekend werden. 12.154 Unieke bezoekers. In Delicatesther haar woorden : “Meer bezoekers dan de gemiddelde hoeveelheid mensen die koffietijd kijken”. Absoluut geweldig. Maar na het zolang over dit heerlijke voedsel te hebben begon de trek in een broodje kebab aardig toe te nemen. En dan natuurlijk wel een broodje van een tent die nog niet op de site staat. Dat zijn we de nieuwe fans wel verschuldigd. Mijn brein maakte overuren; welke tent zou dat moeten worden? De vijver om uit te vissen (nee, geen viskebab) was in Haarlem aardig opgedroogd. En toch wist ik het klaar te spelen, bij toeval, om een tent te ontdekken die naar mijn weten (en het weten van de zoekfunctie) nog niet beschreven was. Mooi!
Öz Ankara. Mooie, ruime bakkerij. Met aparte kebabhoek. Ziet er goed uit allemaal. Een spit met een gestapelde rol, die ondanks het vroege tijdstip al druk aan het draaien en garen is. Ik vrees voor kip, maar ik zie het er niet heel duidelijk van af. De broodjes zien er goed uit. Na mijn bestelling pakt de kebabber een pannetje met vlees en zet dat onder de grill. Ik ben het daar stilletjes niet helemaal mee eens, de rol ziet er goed genoeg uit om een nieuwe oogst van te schaven. Iets dat de kebabber ook besluit te gaan doen terwijl het pannetje onder de grill staat. Zou er nog hoop zijn? Helaas, het bleek ijdele hoop. Krampachtig probeer ik nu een mooie vergelijking te verzinnen om de mate van teleurstelling weer te geven, maar dat kan je beter omdraaien. Bedenk een erg teleurstellende situatie en vergelijk dat dan met het zien van vers afgesneden vlees in de wetenschap dat het vlees op het broodje dat je zo gaat eten uit een pan komt. Juist.
Alles erop, uiteraard. Waaronder erg veel saus. De kebabber bleef het er maar op spuiten. Het groenvoer was aan het oog onttrokken door een stapel Turkse pizza’s, maar bleek later vooral sla en tomaat te zijn. Ik mocht 3 euro afrekenen. Bij het uitpakken van mijn lunchpakket, even later, bleek al gelijk dat de verdeling te wensen over liet. En dat er inderdaad een beste hoeveelheid saus op zat. Minpuntje dus. Daar waar mijn ondertussen goed getrainde oog al niet kon zien om wat voor vlees het ging liet mijn smaak mij ook al in de steek. Met de beste wil ter wereld kon ik niet uitmaken of dit nou kip was of toch lam. Of gewoon rund. Of wat dan ook. Vogeltjes, geit, ik weet het niet. Moet ik dit deze tent aanrekenen of mijzelf? Ook daar kon ik het niet eens over worden. Het was ehh, nou ja, vlees. Dat was een ding dat zeker was. De laatste happen waren wel duidelijk te herkennen : brood. Niets meer, niets minder. Handig om de overtollige resten saus mee van het zilverfolie te deppen. Maar daar zit je als vleeseter natuurlijk niet op te wachten.
Slecht broodje dus? Nee. Was het de euforie die me parten speelt? Was het de gigantische trek in kebab? Was het? Tja, wat was het? De nasmaak was gewoon goed. Zowel de knoflooksaus als de sambal waren oke. Ondanks alle minpunten lukt het me niet negatief over dit broodje te zijn. Vreemd. En niets voor mij. Ik kan dit broodje niet plaatsen. Een broodje dat alle schijn tegen zich heeft en toch (ja, laat ik ook maar eens aan de puntentelling gaan) 3 schapen en 1 kip van me krijgt. Wat gelijk staat aan 2 schapen en 1 lammetje. Wat dat ook moge betekenen. Misschien ben ik gewoon te vrolijk vandaag om nog objectief te kunnen beoordelen en komen ze hier mooi weg. Het zij zo.
