Shit, slechte verdeling. Van reporters dan. Naast een Bert die heel Utrecht lijkt te verorberen heeft Jan Beton tegenwoordig ook een reden gevonden om vaker in Utrecht te vertoeven. Als een malle naar de nieuwe tent in de Nobelstraat dan maar, voor de rest me voor is.
Stralend weer, scriptie af, geld op mijn rekening, het leek me allemaal voor het gebrek aan wind (want; mooi weer) te gaan. Ik stapte bij Stadsschouwburg de bus uit en wandelde naar de nieuwe kebabzaak: Grillroom Kebab Paleis.
Alweer: wat een verdomd chique tent! Groot, schoon, zwarte leren stoelen en zelfs kroonluchters. Dit is mijn derde mooie, schone zaak op rij, ik word er bijna bang van.
Ik bestelde een broodje kebab voor €4 (helaas nog steeds een standaard bedrag in Utrecht) en meldde dat ik het ter plekke wilde opeten. Ik ging zitten en kreeg binnen no time mijn broodje geserveerd.
Vervolgens viel mij het uitzicht op. Net Berlijn veertig jaar terug; aan de ene kant luxe en weelderigheid, aan de andere kant… Nou ja, laten we zeggen dat ik blij was dat ik dit keer aan de goede kant van de straat zat.
Het broodje… Haha… Broodje? De bak met vlees die mij werd voor geschoven was van de kalfsvariant. Ergens onder deze berg smakelijk dood dier was een verse Turkse bol met sesamzaad te vinden, maar je moest goed zoeken onder al dat vlees. Goed gemengd met hele verse sla, rode ui, tomaat, komkommer en wortel. Ook kreeg ik twee flessen voorgeschoteld; standaard knoflooksaus en sambal, niets bijzonders. In de tijd die ik er voor nodig had om mijn broodje te verorberen kwamen er steeds meer mensen binnen lopen, van gematteerde (als in; mat dragend, niet als in niet-glanzend, want glanzen deden ze) studentenjongetjes tot authentieke vermoedelijk grijsharige behoofddoekte Turkse vrouwen. Zo gaat dit verhaal toch van slechte verdeling naar uitstekende verdeling.
Ik kon dit alles wegwerken met een heuse vork, niets plastic geneuzel. Toen ik mijn broodje bijna op had kwam de kebabber mij vriendelijk vragen of hij de saus mocht doorgeven aan de volgende klant. Maar natuurlijk! Ik rekende af en maakte buiten nog even met gevaar voor eigen leven (want aartsvijand nr. 1 zat buiten te kijken vanaf zijn eigen zaak) nog even een foto van de tent.
Vanwege de prijs en de standaard sauzen krijgt deze tent 3,5 van de 5 schapen. Goede lunch!
