De Volendamse haven is weer open voor publiek. Ook alle bewoners die hun woning vanmiddag moesten verlaten, zijn weer veilig thuis. Ondanks dat de brand ‘volledig onder controle’ is, is het sein brand meester nog niet gegeven.
Volgens ooggetuigen is de brand begonnen in het pand van Kebab Volendam. Ook een aangrenzende souvenirwinkel, kledingwinkel en viswinkel zijn ontruimd. Twee mensen hadden last van ademhalingsproblemen, verder vielen er geen gewonden.
Voordat de brand uitbrak, waren er enkele explosies te horen. Deze vonden plaats in de kebabzaak.
Door het snikhete weer konden brandweerlieden moeilijk blussen. Ze moesten regelmatig afwisselen vanwege hun warme kleding.
