Ik heb het te pakken, De smaak? Verliefdheid? Een beetje van allebei
misschien. Ik heb de smaak van het recenseren te pakken en ik ben een
beetje verliefd op de Döner Company.
Mijn review van gisteren heb ik in de huiskamer van mijn studentenhuis
zitten schrijven, onder veel hilariteit en commentaar van mijn
huisgenoten. Eén van mijn huisgenoten kwam ook met een constructieve
opmerking; ik moest eens richting de Jaarbeurs lopen in Hoog
Catharijne, en dan de tweede of derde kebabzaak ofzo… Daar haalde
hij altijd zijn broodje dood vlees. Met dit enig zins vage advies ben
ik er tijdens mijn lunchpauze op uit getrokken.
Ik trok wat geld uit de muur en liep richting jaarbeurs. Die kant op
kom je onmiddellijk een snackbar/cafetaria-achtige tent tegen waar een
grote kebabrol hangt. Ook zag ik een groot bord met de tekst “broodje
kebab €3,50”. Dit stemde mij al meteen in een goed humeur, maar er was
mij verteld dat ik de laatste tent moest hebben, dus ik loop door.
Deze zaak komt een andere keer.
Even verderop vind ik hem dan, de Döner Company. Hij is officieel te
vinden op de Jaarbeurstraverse F1e, maar dus beter te vinden als “in
HC, richting Jaarbeurs.” Dit ziet er veelbelovend uit. Chique oranje
styling, bijpassende oranje shirtjes voor het personeel, meerdere
vleesrollen, en, niet geheel onbelangrijk; het is er druk. Sterker
nog, er is een rij! Voor de zaak staan een paar staan tafels, maar
aangezien het een soort kiosk in HC is is er geen gelegenheid om te
zitten.
Ik zie dat zij broodjes kebab aanbieden vanaf €3,20, zowel kip als
lam. (Misschien even met die informatie langs de Dóner 66?). Ondanks
mijn 5e plaats in de rij hoef ik nauwelijks te wachten, deze mensen
werken door! Ik bestel een broodje döner (waarbij het “brood” een wrap
blijkt te zijn), waar ik dan wel €4 voor moet uitgeven. Met mijn
bonnetje in de aanslag wacht ik op mijn beurt. Het vlees wordt met
zo’n moderne schuurmachine van de rol af geslepen. Au bain marie doen
ze hier niet aan, er zijn veel te veel klanten om dat vlees ook maar
even te laten liggen. Als ik aan de beurt ben vraagt de man wat ik op
mijn wrap wil; en daarmee bedoeld hij het groenvoer. Ik zeg “alles”,
en krijg dus sla, ui, tomaat, komkommer én rode kool. Bij de saus mag
ik keurig zowel sambal als knoflooksaus roepen (ik ga alleen voor
knoflook, ik moet met gekrenkte trots toegeven dat ik niet goed tegen
pittig eten kan), en vervolgens wordt het vlees erbij gegooid. Dit
alles gebeurd in een luttele twee seconden, de man kan olympisch
voedselwerper worden.
Als alles op mijn wrap zit gaat hij nog even onder de grill. Achter
mij hoor ik een meisje zeggen: “De vorige keer proefde je nauwelijks
vlees…” Zou er dan toch een minpunt zijn?
Een minuutje of wat later krijg ik mijn wrap keurig in een aluminium
folietje geschoven aangegeven. Zoals je op de foto kan zien is het een
flinke wrap. (denk daarbij aan het feit dat ik freaky kleine handen
heb). Toegegeven, bovenaan lijkt wat weinig vlees te zitten. Verder
naar onder daar aan tegen is de verdeling vlees, saus en groenvoer
perfect. Ik vind het heerlijk!
Ik grijp mijn telefoon en sms mijn huisgenoot: “Je hebt gelijk. Döner
Company is geweldig.”
