Vandaag was ik voor Eurodesk (mijn stageplaats) in de Talent Factory in Den Bosch voor een regioconferentie. Keurig met naamkaartje stond ik achter de informatietafel (ongeveer achter die mooie laptop in het midden, waar ik overigens ook dit verslag op uit typ) om mensen te vertellen wat Eurodesk en Go Europe nou precies inhouden. (Dit zal ik jullie besparen).
Het was van te voren niet helemaal duidelijk of ik voor mijn eigen lunch moest zorgen of niet, dus uit voorzorg had ik wel geld, maar geen eten meegenomen. Dit bleek terecht; er was geen lunch dus ik moest er zelf op uit om iets te snaaien te regelen.
Ik liep de Talent Factory uit en ging op zoek. Alle cafetaria en snackbars die ik tegen kwam waren gesloten (op een dinsdagmiddag… vreemd), ik kon alleen terecht bij dure hotelrestaurants of de Verkadefabriek (die ik er ook niet goedkoop uit vond zien). Ik ben uiteindelijk helemaal teruggelopen naar station ‘s Hertogenbosch, en zag daar een oude vertrouwde: de Döner Company. Nu heb ik natuurlijk al een review over de Döner company geschreven, maar dat was over hun tak in Utrecht. Ik was toch benieuwd of de Bosschenaren het er net zo goed van af zouden brengen.
Ik loop naar binnen en realiseer me dat ik de vorige keer gewoon het verkeerde product besteld had. Ook hier kun je een wrap kopen, en ook hier is hij €4. Maar je kan ook gaan voor het kleine broodje kebab (€3,20), of het grote broodje kebab (€3,70). Uiteraard ga ik voor het grote broodje.
De vrouw die mijn broodje aanslaat ziet er bijzonder dom uit, maar aangezien haar enige taak is mij een bonnetje en €0,30 terug te geven lijkt het toch allemaal te lukken. Wat een stuk chagrijn. Ik loop een halve meter door naar de balie waar de broodjes gemaakt worden en wacht op mijn beurt.
De kereltjes die voor mij besteld hebben zijn van het typ: “Ik weet dat ik niet zwart ben, sterker nog, als je me aan wil kijken heb je een zonnebril nodig, maar zo’n diamandje in mijn oor staat me toch machtig mooi.” Mocht een van mijn lezers aan deze omschrijving voldoen: Nee. Het staat je niet. Als man zijnde heb je maar vier excuses om oorbellen te dragen: je bent (succesvol) rapper, je bent (succesvol) hardrocker, je bent (extreem) alto en hebt eigenlijk gewoon grote zuigende zwarte gaten die eigenlijk oorlel hoorden te zijn, of je bent inboorling. Toch, deze stijlloze kereltjes bestelden hetzelfde als ik, en ik vind het toch wel mooi om te zien dat een goed broodje kebab zelfs de twee extreemste werelden kunnen verbinden. (Behalve misschien de carnivoren en de vegetariërs, maar die discussie laat ik wel aan Bas over).
Door deze gedachtenstromen heb ik niet goed opgelet bij het klaarmaken van het broodje, dus ik kan niet zeggen waar het vlees vandaan kwam. Ik vermoed uit dat het al klaar lag gezien de drukte en het feit dat ik hem geen vlees heb zien snijden.
De man die mijn broodje klaar maakt is nog chagrijniger dan de vrouw die me het bonnetje gaf. Hij gooit er (blijkbaar) vlees in, en vraagt mij of ik “alles” wil. Ik zeg: “Ja, behalve sambal.” Vervolgens spuit hij een hoeveelheid knoflooksaus op mijn vlees, gooit er wat ijsbergsla op en vraagt me of het zo goed is. Nou, ik tel toch zeker vier andere vormen van groenvoer (ui, rode kool, komkommer, tomaat), maar als hij ijsbergsla als “alles” verstaat is dat blijkbaar ook goed. Ik schrijf immers een review, een volgende keer vraag ik ook wel om de andere soorten salade.
Ik pak mijn broodje aan en loop naar buiten. Het grote broodje is inderdaad van een lekker formaat. Het vlees en de sla is vers. De verdeling is vreselijk. Tijdens de eerste happen heb ik voornamelijk sla, in het midden volgt een hoeveelheid saus waar je u tegen zegt, en onderaan heb ik alleen vlees. Alle drie goede producten maar ik heb ze toch het liefst gemengd in in broodje. Als het broodje op is ben ik wel gevuld en ik loop weer terug naar de Talent Factory.
Conclusie: De Döner company heeft in principe een recept voor succes. Het is redelijk betaalbaar, de producten zijn vers en van behoorlijke kwaliteit, en de zaak ziet er strak en verzorgt uit. Nu moeten ze hun personeel nog trainen. Even wat professionele vriendelijkheid en wat beter schudden met dat broodje zou deze ervaring van “ok” tot “goed!” veranderen.
