De eerste tent die mij duidelijk zou maken hoe goed ik het wel niet heb gehad in Duitsland en wat voor een retards wij Nederlanders zijn met betrekking tot afhaalvoedsel zit in Nijmegen. De toko heet De Vulkaan. De naam trok mij wel en hoopte dan ook op een broodje met echt goede sambal. Binnen wordt mij een menulijstje aangereikt. De grote menulijst boven de afzuiger is namelijk achterstevoren in de lichtbak geplaatst wat het lezen bemoeilijkt. Ik zie nergens een spit maar neem de gok. Ein döner kebab bitte. Een wrap of een gewoon broodje? Gewoon een broodje graag. Het eerste wat mij vervolgens opvalt is de lucht in de tent. Een lucht van smerig oud vet. Terwijl de verkoper bezig is wat bevroren kebab uit de diepvries te scheppen gaat zijn collega door met falafel frituren. Een bolletje gaat onder de grill en ik besluit wat meer bij de deur te gaan staan om ook wat frisse lucht van buiten mee te pakken. Zie vervolgens dat de overbuurman ook kebab verkoopt. Ik baal dat ik daar niet heen ben gegaan. Een oudere Turkse man komt de zaak binnen en begint onmiddellijk over de lucht in de tent. Zo kun je toch niet werken! De verkoper legt uit dat de afzuiger die bij een paar plafondplaten naar beneden hangt waarschijnlijk lek is maar waar precies hebben ze nog niet gevonden. De Turkse man besluit het etablissement meteen weer te verlaten. Na een minuut of 10 is het vlees warm en het bolletje ontdooit. Ik heb nog nooit een bolletje zo lang onder de grill zien liggen zonder toast te worden dus ga ervan uit dat deze ook bevroren was. De 2 worden gecombineerd en er wordt wat in een knoflookfles geknepen. Sla, alles? Ja, alles zeg ik. Terwijl er maar keuze is uit tomaat, komkommer, augurk en ui. Allen zien er niet al te best uit maar de komkommer wel het ergste. Deze is compleet uitgedroogd. Het eindoordeel over deze zaak is dan ook dik onvoldoende. Het broodje was nog redelijk onder de grill vandaan gekomen. Het vlees was te droog en krokant geworden van het invriezen en daarna te lang opbakken. De salade was gewoon vies. Ik heb een fles knoflooksaus gezien maar kwam dit pas bij de laatste 3 happen van mijn broodje tegen. Sambal? dat hadden ze niet eens terwijl ze zichzelf De Vulkaan noemen. Kansloos…. Jammer dat je na een Duits tripje onmiddellijk weer in zo’n diep dal moet vallen.
