Wij eten dingen, zodat jij het niet hoeft te doen. We eten zelfs dingen die jij niet zou doen. Of misschien wel. Maar ervan uitgaande dat jij, lieve lezer, dankzij ons ondertussen ook een beetje verstand hebt van kebab zou je sommige dingen beter moeten weten. Na het lezen van onze meesterwerkjes begin jij ook dat derde oog te ontwikkelen, en sla je af en toe een tent over als je hem niet op deze site terug kunt vinden. Laat die gekke reporters hem eerst maar testen, ik vind hem er niet uit zien! En groot gelijk heb je ook. Zo’n kraam op Koningsnacht? Daar waag je je niet aan. Jij weet wel beter; dat kan nooit veel zijn.

Helaas kruipt bij ons dan juist het bloed waar het niet gaan kan. Waar jij denkt “Dat is voor de dronken massa, ik wil iets beters!” denken wij “Oh shit, het moet maar weer…”

Zo ook deze Koningsnacht, in Utrecht, op de brug bij het gezellige feestje op het Asch van Wijckplein. Het moest maar weer. Met het festival seizoen in aantocht moet ik mijn maag toch weer trainen.

Het was alles wat je van festival en/of feestvoer kunt verwachten. Een grappige naam (voor ons dan, aangezien we soms een kebabtour houden). Een stereotype, vrolijke kebab snijder. Duur, aangezien het me vijf euro heeft gekost. Een simpel broodje dat iets te snel weer uit de grill ging. Sla die bestaat uit sla, vooral niets meer. Saus uit een fabriek, zonder te veel knoflook, smaak of pit. Een fabrieksrol die wegens drukte net niet lang genoeg heeft kunnen wennen aan de warmte van het spit. Precies genoeg om je weer even op de been te houden. Het liefst met een sausvlek ergens op je kleding.

Het is te eten, het is binnen te houden. Zelfs best lekker op het moment van eten (dankzij de verzachtende omstandigheid die bier heet). Het is geen ramp, maar het is toch een beetje alsof je erwtensoep uit blik eet. Alsof je bij de McDonalds een euro burgertje eet terwijl je van die hippe, gespecialiseerde burger tenten gewend bent. En dat voor iets te veel geld. En toch houd ik er van. Omdat het betekent dat het mooiste seizoen van het jaar weer aangebroken is. Die van feestjes met te duur bier, leuke bandjes, zon en meer van dat. En aangezien er in Utrecht eigenlijk niet zo heel veel goede kebab te vinden is kon dit er nog best mee door. Alleen die prijs… Dat schandalig misbruik maken van de dronken feestvierder… Bah!
