Toen ik een jaar of zeven was leerde ik het woord ‘forens’ van mijn moeder, het staat me nog steeds bij. Mijn vader was een forens. Ik vond dat zo’n raar concept. Een soort ziekte. Waarom zouden mensen reizen van en naar hun werk? Het is toch onlogisch? Werken kan je toch ook dichtbij? Kunnen mensen dan niet van baan ruilen, zodat ieder in z’n eigen stad werkt? Enfin, zo’n mooie wereld is het nog steeds niet.
Ik sta nog steeds achter mijn kinderfilosofie, maar mijn baas weigert het nieuwe kantoor in Utrecht te bouwen. Inmiddels heb ik dus zelf ook het forenzenvirus stevig te pakken. Met al dat gependel zou je zeggen dat ik meer kebabzaken tegen zou komen, maar helaas. Het stukkie reizen is iedere dag hetzelfde, dus enige variatie komt in de vorm van openende- en sluitende zaken op mijn traject, danwel in de vorm van een aanpassing in het assortiment.
Dat laatste gebeurde deze week in, jawel, de Albert Heijn to Go. In samenwerking met &Samhoud bieden ze ons nu voor €3,75 een wrap kebab. Of pardon, een ‘Flatbread kebab von gemüse‘. Oh jee.
&Samhoud zijn die gasten van die hamburger die volledig van tomaat gemaakt is. Heb ik ook ooit op. Op zich prima van smaak, maar ik vond de structuur niet geweldig. Maar, zo dacht &Samhoud, kebab kan dan niet uitblijven. Dit product is dus gemaakt van zaken als aubergine, sesampasta en, *kokhals*, vegetarisch stremsel. Trots adverteren ze op het product dat er wel 80 gram groente in zit, net iets minder dan de helft van het totale gewicht.
Het is makkelijk om te haten op vegetarische vervangers van echt voedsel. Dat doen we op deze site dan ook veelvuldig en met verve. Ondanks dat ik me ferm schaar binnen team vlees, word ik op zich wel vrolijk van de manier waarop &Samhoud het aanpakt. Geen sojabonen of tofu, maar creatief gebruik van groenten. Dan rest de vraag; is ze dat bij het heilige broodje kebab gelukt? … Nou nee. Het smaakte naar een wrap pindakaas met bloemkool.
Lang verhaal kort: je hoeft er niet voor om te reizen.
