Bijdrage van Captain Kebab
Vrijdag de dertiende lijkt natuurlijk de slechtste dag om naar de tandarts te gaan. Of de tandarts, de mondhygieniste. De tandarts was ik vorige keer al heen geweest zoals de echte kebabreporters nog wel weten van het kebabreport over Seyfa in Baarn. En inderdaad onderweg naar Huizen, of all places, leken de drie vreselijke waarheden weer werkelijkheid te worden; het stoplicht staat op rood, het glas is halfleeg en niemand kan autorijden behalve ik.
Gelukkig woon ik aan de rand van Amsterdam op een triest industrieterreintje vanaf waar ik zo op de snelweg zit. Dat is vooral ook heel veilig voor mijn omgeving want aangezien niemand kan autorijden behalve ik verander ik zodra ik achter het stuur stap in een soort van monster met maar 1 doel; zo snel mogelijk van A naar B. En met mijn dikke negentig kilo aan aggressie en geweld is het dan fijn voor andere mensen dat ik me in een soort van kooi bevind.
Onderweg naar Huizen dus met snoeihard Type O negative aan en het vooruitzicht dat iemand zich met haken, priemen, messen en boren in mijn bek zou gaan uitleven. En dat net nadat er besloten is door een of ander halfgaar wijf in Den Haag dat het, gezien de successen in het verleden met het laten wegvallen van alle controle, voor tandartsen vrijstaat om zelf hun tarief te betalen waardoor ik zo aan het begin van het jaar al op het punt sta een poot uitgedraaid te worden. Vrijwillig.
Eenmaal aangekomen bij de kliniek in dat dorp blijkt het een en ander reuze mee te vallen. De behandelend arts is een lekker jong meisje met een, uiteraard, stralende glimlach en twee flinke pluspunten die je de hel die je op het punt staat te betreden even doen vergeten. En dan blijkt de behandeling ook nog eens honderd procent mee te vallen! Mooi. Tijd voor deel twee van de dag, de kebab. Had dat meisje mij nu een vreselijke tijd bezorgd, dan zou ik de zaken bij het volgende bezoek lekker omdraaien, eerst kebab en dan naar de tandarts. Maar nu niet dus.
Lang leve de moderne mobiele telefoons bij onze quest naar kebab. Al snel dienen enkele zaken zich aan. Israelisch restaurant Mazzel, pizzeria San Marino en lunchroom Kambur. Die eerste zou je dan eerder verwachten in Amsterdam en die laatste in Leeuwarden maar toch treffen we beide aan in het gooische Huizen. Nou, dan maar de eerste nemen die ik tegenkom.
Met mijn verdoofde bek weer in de auto, Type O aan en op zoek naar de vlag. Dat valt nog niet mee in Huizen, er is namelijk niet iets van een centrumpje ofzo in dat gehucht. Maar gelukkig ontdek ik het gemeentehuis, het politiebureau en de bushalte. Typisch bedrijven waar zo allejezus weinig wordt gedaan dat ze waarschijnlijk ook te beroerd zijn om ‘sochtends vreten voor overdag mee te nemen van huis en dus de ideale groep mensen vormen voor afhaallunches waarbij de schijf van twee, vet en koolhydraten, hoogtij viert. Parkeren en een rondje lopen dus. Parkeren is gratis, fijn. Of eigenlijk moet je een parkeerschijf achter je ruit pleuren maar die heb ik niet.
Al snel spot ik het reeds eerder genoemde Kambur. Die wordt het dus. Bij binnenkomst vallen een aantal zaken op. Zo hangt daar de welbekende rol bleek eiervlees aan de grill die uitstaat. De zaak is schoon, netjes en ietwat sjiek qua inrichting met veel rood en zwart. En, er staat een vrolijk meisje achter de balie dat bij binnenkomst meteen groet, dat is ook wel eens leuk. Meestal staat er immers een ongeschoren chagrijnige kerel die aan het roken is en slechts met de grootst mogelijke moeite een groet in gebroken Nederlands eruit rochelt.
Een turks meisje in een kebabzaak vind ik altijd wel wat hebben, bij Donerium tegenover Leeman hadden ze dat ook een tijdje. Het is alsof er een beetje liefde in je broodje kebab bijkomt. Soms is een kerel beter. Als huisarts bijvoorbeeld. Ik moet er namelijk niet aan denken dat ik met mijn aambeiklachten bij een vrouwelijke huisarts kom die dan ook nog eens in mijn hol gaat zitten wroeten, dat heeft toch iets fistfuckerigs. Dan liever een mannelijke arts die even kijkt, dat komt toch anders over. Maar bij de kebabspies is een vrouw danweer wel leuk.
Ik bestelde een broodje doner bij de kebabster met alles erop om ter plekke te nuttigen en neem plaats op een van de mooie rode bankjes. Een flinke turkse bol wordt in de oven gemikt waar ook een andere turk pizzabodems aan het maken is. Het vlees kwam niet van de spies, waar ik gezien mijn ervaring met ongegrilld vlees van de spies zoals bij die gare hut in Purmereutel wel blij mee was, maar uit een verborgen keukentje. Meestal geen goed teken maar goed.
Enige tijd verstreek en het was tijd voor de finishing touch. Vanuit een hoek hoorde ik het gerammel van stalen bakken waaruit, naar ik vermoedde, de salade werd geschept. Er werd wat gerommeld en enkele ogenblikken later werd ik keurig aan tafel geserveerd.
De flinke turkse bol was goed geroosterd en zat in het welbekende papieren zakje. Dit geheel was gedeponeerd in een wit stenen bakje. Dus niet die suffe “houten” bakjes die je overal ziet. En… ik kreeg er een prima servet bij. Niet zo een die je per 30.000 koopt bij de hema, maar een echt stevig servet. En die had ik nodig ook omdat de saus en stukjes gekauwde doner uit de hoek van mijn verdoofde bek kwamen druipen alsof ik een kwijlende mongool was.
De inhoud van de bol bestond uit eiervlees wat best iets langer in de buurt van de grill had gemogen en dus redelijk standaard was, maar ook superverse knapperige salade. De verdeling was prima, ook van de saus. Deze kebabster had werkelijk haar best gedaan om dit een prima broodje te maken met de juiste verdeling van de ingredienten. De sambal was lekker pittig maar in de knoflooksaus mag iets meer van het hoofdingredient wat niet voor niets naamgever is van deze saus.
Al met al een prima broodje kebab wat met verder doorgegrilld vlees en een betere knoflooksaus zeker tot de subtoppers behoord, al was het alleen al om die leuke kebabster.
