Een van de laatste buiten festivals van het jaar is toch meestal wel (ik wou traditiegetrouw zeggen maar dit was pas de tweede keer dat ik er was) Cilinderfest in het altijd bruisende Hoofddorp. Kleinschalig en met veel herrie. Drum en Bass, metal, dat werk. Je moet er van houden. Ik zelf kwam voornamelijk voor de gezelligheid, en omdat ik graag elke gelegenheid aangrijp om schandalig veel te zuipen. Ik kwam redelijk nuchter aan op een modderig terrein. Het weer zat niet echt mee, helaas. Voorzichtig aan mijn eerste biertje begonnen, beetje rondlopen, beetje ouwehoeren, dat werk. Alles nog rustig.
Dat veranderde natuurlijk toen ik bij Bas in de buurt bleef staan. De biertjes vlogen me zowat om de oren, en mijn nuchterheid verdween als sneeuw voor de zon. Absoluut niets mis mee, behalve dat iets in mijn maag wel fijn zou zijn om al dat alcoholische geweld op te vangen. De kebabkraam was natuurlijk allang gespot, maar het was min of meer de bedoeling te wachten tot de rest van het reportersteam aanwezig zou zijn. Twee biertjes verder besloot ik dat dat me echt te lang zou gaan duren, er kon altijd nog een tweede broodje gehaald worden, waarom niet, maar ik moest nu wat eten. Nu! Bas uit zijn gesprek getrokken, vreten!
Twee broodjes besteld. Even vergeten dat, hoe kleinschalig ook, het wel een festival betrof. Oftewel : Hoofdprijs! Ik mocht 11 euro afrekenen. Het spit zag er goed uit, maar het was kip, en een kiprol ziet er eigenlijk altijd wel goed uit. Volgens mij heeft Bas nog wel vragen gesteld omtrent het hoe en waarom van alleen kip, maar het antwoord daarop weet ik niet meer. Alles d’r op, al waren ze bij mij de sambal even vergeten en geloofde ze het niet toen ik die alsnog ging halen. Broodje werd open gemaakt en bestudeerd, alsof ik de boel wou oplichten, wat begrijpelijk is, de verhalen over sambal zwendel en zaken die failliet gaan door te veel weggeven sambal staan natuurlijk nog in ons aller geheugen gegrift.
Eerste indruk van het broodje was goed. Sla was standaard. De kip was best goed te eten. Maar al vrij snel bleek het broodje de inhoud niet te kunnen dragen. Grote delen inhoud waren slachtoffer van de zwaartekracht en besloten op de grond te gaan liggen. Broodje zelf scheurde ook half open. Geen probleem met een bordje er onder en wat bestek ernaast, maar staand, schuilend voor weer een regenbui, is het toch een ander verhaal. In dit soort gevallen heb je een broodje nodig dat als toevallig ook eetbare verpakking dient voor het vlees, saus en groenvoer.
Kijk, als ik dit broodje voor 3 euro de mijne had mogen noemen had ik niet lopen zeiken. Maar dit was gewoon zonde van het geld. Ik reken het de kebabverkoper niet aan, die moet wel. Het kost hem geloof ik ook geld daar te staan. Dus tja, dan is er niets aan de prijzen te doen. Al had een beter broodje er heus wel in kunnen zitten. Later hoorde ik ook verhalen dat de drukte ze geen goed deed. Bestellingen aan verkeerde mensen geven, mensen die zonder te betalen toch wat te eten kregen, dat werk. Ach ja.
De hamburger die ik later met Bas nog ergens at (of nou ja, vrat) deed meer goed. De overige reporters hebben niet eens meer een broodje gehaald, die zagen de bui ook al hangen. En het feest? Dat was weer uitermate tof, tenminste, wat ik me kan herinneren. En dan weet je het wel.
