Mijn reporters-hart bloedt. Ik ben nog niet eerder uitbaters tegengekomen die zo vriendelijk waren als die van Snackbar Samar te Amsterdam. Ik wilde ze daarom ook écht een uitstekende recensie geven. Helaas krijgen ze slechts een middelmatige.
Ik kwam daar gisteren rond lunchtijd een broodje kipdöner halen. Terwijl de eigenaar de deur open gooide vroeg ik voorzichtig of het al mogelijk was om een broodje te bestellen, dat was geen probleem. Onmiddellijk verdween hij de keuken in terwijl een vrouw aan de slag ging om alle stoelen van tafel en de rekken van de ramen te halen. Ondertussen riep ze naar me dat ik lekker moest gaan zitten. De man vroeg of ik er ook sambal op wilde. Op mijn standaard ‘alles’ reactie, beaamde hij grinnikend ‘alles’.
Na enkele minuten kreeg ik mijn pakketje in handen. Ik trok mijn pinpas tevoorschijn, waarop bleek dat de man niet bijzonder goed Nederlands sprak. Ik had bij binnenkomst gevraagd of er gepind kon worden, maar blijkbaar had hij de vraag niet begrepen en toch “ja” geopperd. Ik vroeg of er een pinautomaat in de buurt was. Nee nee, dat was helemaal niet nodig. Ik mocht ook best een dagje later terugkomen om te betalen, dat was prima. Wow, oké, cool.
Het was zonnig en mijn collega’s hadden buiten een bankje veroverd. Ik voegde me bij hen en maakte het pakket open. Aiii. Overal saus, de standaard witte Turkse bol droop er van. Flashbacks van Dour 2010 schoten door mijn hoofd. Er viel wat van het vlees op de grond en een duif liep er met een boog omheen, tot grote hilariteit van mijn collega’s. ‘Zelfs die duiven lusten het niet’.
Ik nam een hap en besloot (niet voor de eerste keer in mijn leven) dat ik duiven maar achterlijke beesten vind. Het vlees was heerlijk. Oké, kip. Maar goed mals, lekkere kruiden, en ondanks dat het niet linea recta van de rol kwam smaakte het vers. De sauzen waren, behalve overvloedig aanwezig, niet erg memorabel. Het groenvoer was simpele ijsbergsla. Helaas was er van een goede verdeling geen sprake. De laatste happen flikkerde ik weg aangezien ik niet van bepaalde extra’s hou.
Aan het einde van mijn werkdag pinde ik wat geld en liep ik terug naar Samar en rekende ik de verschuldigde €3,50 af, wellicht tot verbazing van de eigenaar. Wel was hij wederom heel erg vriendelijk en bood hij zijn welgemeende excuses voor de problematiek met mijn broodje aan. We wensten elkaar een fijne dag en ik vertrok.
Personeel met een gouden hart, heerlijk vlees, veel teveel saus, ongewenste extra’s. Een middenmoter met twee en een half van de vijf schapen, dus.
