Na de ernstig bovengemiddelde kebablunch op dag 1 moesten we in de avond ook nog iets eten tussen het zuipen door, dus wij de stad in.
Onderweg terug naar het hok waar we sliepen werd bier en andere zooi gehaald.
Zes grote Heinekens, twee Erdingers, cola, chips en chocola: 21 euro. We gierden het uit.
De Texmex tent vroeg ons 68 euro (nachos met zes dips, twee quesedillas, drie tacos, drie cocktails en drie bier! Gekkenhuis!
Ik denk: ik vermeld het maar even want we waren perplex door de lage prijzen.
Peuken valt een beetje tegen trouwens, standaard pakkie: 8,65. Alsnog een tasje vol meegepakt natuurlijk. En gewoon blowen overal. Had ik mijn waardering voor de moffen al uitgesproken? Zeker wel!
Dag 2 arriveerden we in Neuss, deden ons ding en reden helemaal kapot terug naar Essen.
Tering wat vermoeiend allemaal dit. Ik word oud. Gelukkig zag ik dat mijn medereizigers het ook niet makkelijk hadden. Er werd gestrompeld en geklaagd dat het een lieve lust had.
Niet dat we nu ineens geen kebab meer konden eten ofzo! Neeeheeeee! Die knakker van de bier kiosk verderop claimde dat de beste tent daar Haus des Döners was en laat ik die nou net op m’n to-do-list hebben!
Na een minuut of vijf lopen en twee minuten zoekwerk tussen de junkies door, stonden we voor dit vleespaleis en kon het dansen beginnen.
Dansen zeg je? Ja, dat zei ik ja. Als je kijkt naar wat deze tovenaars staan te doen daar achter de vitrine, kan je alleen maar dansen van geluk.
Oef, dit belooft wat hoor.
Omdat er meer klandizie was, stonden we even rond te kijken en te genieten van het schouwspel. Totdat we werden geroepen en er twee bladen vol kunst richting ons werden getransporteerd. Godsamme, wat een knallers!
Ik hield het simpel qua vulling. Tomaat, jalapenos, rode uit, komkommer, feta en de drie Duitse sauzen; knoblauch, scharf en kräuter! Vooral die laatste….die was homemade en KILLER!
Ik kan alleen maar stellen dat we dit nodig hadden op dat moment. We zaten buiten aan een tafeltje, soort van verbaasd. Nee, hoe zeg je zoiets? Perplex? Flabbergasted? Met stomheid geslagen? Verrukt?
Dit broodje versloeg het broodje van de dag ervoor met ruime marge.
Ik vermoed dat het zat in de liefdevolle bereiding, het vakmanschap en de meesterlijke sauzen. De verdeling was super, het brood super, alles was super.
Mocht je ooit in Essen terrechtkomen; Haus des döners, midden in dat centrum daaro.
Zeeeeeeeer de moeite waard.
